The first pilot to leap from his own aeroplane with a parachute, the first to soar upside down, creator of aerial acrobatics and the first air ace. Adolphe Pégoud’s career established flying as a dangerous and thrilling occupation.
In 1913 he performed for hundreds of thousands of amazed spectators across Europe, turning dramatic loops and spins never before seen from the fragile aircraft the era. When the First World War began Pégoud turned his talents to battling enemy aeroplanes at the dawn of air combat.
